Help in Knitting: Neck Warmer with Flower?

I am trying to make this thing for my Physics teacher but I am stuck right at the first step.
It is a very fanciful neck warmer, here is the link:

http://www.bernat.com/data/pattern/pdf/Bernat_Alpacaweb1_kn_neckwarmer.en_US.pdf

I am stuck right at the first row, someone please tell me what it means.
_ Beg at point, cast on 1 st.
what does beginning at point mean? I know what cast on 1 stitch is.
_1st row: (RS). (K1.P1.K1) all in st. 3 sts.
first row: (right side). (knit 1, purl 1, knit 1) all in stitch. 3 stitches.
what does it mean?? how could we knit1 purl1 knit1 all in 1 stitch? and 3 stitches? where does it come from?
It’s not too late to start learning dang it!!
I’ve been knitting many scarves but have never looked at a pattern direction. XD
Please show me, I’m a fast learner. XD

“Beg at point” means that the item has a point on it, and you’re starting there.

“(K1, P1, K1) all in st.” means you perform the 3 stitch motions all in just he one stitch you casted on.

“3 stitches” means you now have 3 stitches.
