Make Moving Home Stressless
Moving house is not something that most of us look forward to, no matter where you are. That stress is magnified several times over if you’re looking at London removals. Unless you have very few possessions, call in the professionals to help you move house. It will relieve some of the stress of the big move. You can arrange for it all to be done for you or you can do the packing yourself but leave the heavy stuff to the experts. Amber Moves are just such an expert, having been involved in the London removals business for more than 15 years.Here are some useful tips from them on handling the big day:
Moving house is a great opportunity to sort out all your possessions. Throw away or recycle your rubbish and separate items that can be given to friends or sold to charity shops. That doesn’t just cover small items. If you have bits of furniture or beds that you don’t need any more, organisations like the FRN (Furniture Re-use Network) would welcome them and even collect. The FRN supports charitable re-use organisations and helps very poor households get furniture, white goods and other household items at affordable prices.
Hire your removal company at least two weeks before you move and remember that you may also have to apply for parking dispensations from your local authority for the removal van itself.Do get at least three quotes from companies before deciding and try to select a removal company that is a member of the respected British Association of Removers (BAR).That way, you’ll know that they are a professional company and have adequate insurance cover. Traditionally the last Friday of every month is the busiest moving date in the removals calendar, but it’s still worthwhile checking if the company offers a discount on a weekday.
Get packing boxes well in advance from local shops or supermarkets, and save newspapers for wrapping breakables. Book your removal company at least two weeks in advance of the proposed moving date, and remember that specific timings are important. If you are completing your move and awaiting keys for the new house, you don’t want to start too early and pay for waiting time at the other end, but you should be out of your old property in time for the new owners arriving to move their furniture in.
If packing yourself, remember that books and records are deceptively heavy, so don’t overfill boxes or crates.Drawers in chests can be left filled with linen and clothes but it’s a good idea to at least hire wardrobe boxes for the enormous contents of wardrobes. Fridges and freezers should be emptied and defrosted and cookers should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid accidents with loose glass etc.
It will also help if you let your chosen removal company know the amount of furniture you’re moving, so it can choose an adequately sized truck and plan the exact number of journeys needed between your old and new home. Give them a rough guess of how many boxes you’ll need to pack and tell the mover the exact time you want the team to arrive. Provide clear instructions and directions to your new property and always tell the removal firm well in advance of pieces of furniture which won’t go through the door – making a plan of where the furniture needs to go in your new home or agreeing a colour coding systems with stickers etc is always helpful.
