Asperger’s Syndrome and School/Work?
Hello,
I am a 17 year old girl and I have been diagnosed high-functioning asperger’s syndrome. Unfortunately, situations led to my quiting school after many trials of making it work out for me. I am in the process of finishing through corrospondance.
Is quitting school with what I have cowardly? Should I be ashamed of myself? I feel guilty for what I have done. I quit grade 11.
Now I have another question! I am wondering what good jobs there is for myself. I have problems with sensory overloads when it comes to synthetic smells (exhaust, perfume, cleaners etc.) and I am not very good with loud noises.
I have interests in celtic music, herbalism (homeopathic and natural medicines), plants, crocheting/knitting/textiles, and history.
What would be a good job choice for me, judging on what I listed above?
Thanks.
As a special education major, I have to say that no, removing yourself from school was not cowardly. If you still do the work neccesary to qualify for graduation, you deserve your diploma and have every right to be proud of it.
As to the job, find something that interests you. I have concentration problems that stem from a TBI some years back, and it is easiest for me to keep a focus when I am doing something that either interests me or that I feel a sense of ownership in. The more you care about what you do, the easier it is to focus past the things that cause you difficulties.
