A Timely Glimpse At Kimwipes Vs Micro-Fiber Wipes
Kimwipes are a Kimberly-Clarke product that has been designed specifically for use as a delicate task wiper. The wipes are manufactured from a wood pulp with chemical additives to prevent lint from getting on the surface being cleaned. They are used most commonly in laboratories and are reported to be soft and non-abrasive. The product is gaining in popularity for cleaning items outside the lab, and have a good review about the wipes will help you to determine if they will meet your needs.
Micro-fiber cloths normally do not come with a dispenser, since they are not disposable. These provided an effecitve alternative to the use of paper towel dispenser. However, the dispenser made for the dry-wipes is a seamless, molded plastic that protects the wipes from spills. There are very few other products that can be compared to the disposable wipes because they have been used almost exclusively in labs and health care facilities.
The micro-fiber sheets are manufactured from polyester which makes them less absorbent than the disposable wipes. Both are not abrasive, however the dry, disposable wipes have been the traditional choice for cleaning pipettes, lenses and slides. The disposable wipes are not made to be used on tinted or optical lenses, however and micro-fiber sheets are often even less abrasive, but may become embedded with debris.
The benefits of the dry-wipes vs micro-fiber has been hotly debated by photographers who must maintain the lense of their cameras in pristine condition. An individual who is considering which type of cleaning method will be most effective should spend some time researching the pros and cons of each and experimenting with an inexpensive lens before using on more expensive camera parts. Using a few drops of Residual Oil Remover (ROR) on the corner of a Kimwipe has provided some photographers with the satisfactory results they want.
Absorbency is an important factor when looking for the proper wipes for some types of cleaning. The dry-wipes are more absorbent than Micro-fiber. However, they are not as absorbent as products made for that specific purpose. Therefore, if you are protecting a delicate item from a spill, the Kimwipe will absorb some, or most, or the liquid. However, mirco-fiber does not absorb as effectively and therefore, delicate items may be damaged.
Micro-fiber wipes are not disposable so a method for cleaning them between use is required to keep them from developing a build-up of dirt and oil which can damage your items. Kimwipes are disposable and come in boxes ranging from 250 to 500. Schools, laboratories, and locations where there is no means of cleaning find the Kimwipes a more convenient and versatile tool for maintaining cleanliness.
When compared, Kimwipes provide a soft, non-abrasive sheet that is contained in a dispenser that keeps the sheets clean and protected from liquids or debris. The uses for these wipes is expanding as more people attain products that require regular cleaning with a product that removes dust, lint, and liquids. They are convenient and easy to place near any work area without having to resort to paper towel dispenser. A photographer will want to test the wipes to make sure that they will meet their needs before using them on more expensive lenses.
