Desserts – How To Assemble A Tiered Cake
Do you love brownies? I do, especially ones made from scratch, with real cocoa or unsweetened chocolate, eggs, milk and butter. Brownies fall under the “comfort food” category for me; I can’t even think about calories when I’m enjoying these squares still warm from the oven. Bread and butter refers to the way one earns a living (similar to the phrase one’s rice bowl) and a breadwinner is the one who supports the family.
To construct a tiered cake you will need to following materials:
* Dowels (wooden or plastic)
* 1 Cake drum (leave 2″ extra on each side of your cake) i.e. For an 8″ cake, get a 12″ cake drum
* Cake boards covered in fanci foil
* Buttercream or Royal Icing
* Spatula
Combine milk, Splenda, baking mix, eggs, butter, and vanilla in blender. Cover and blend at low speed for 3 minutes. Pour mixture into a greased 9-inch pie plate. Let stand for 5 minutes then sprinkle with the coconut. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Now that you have your dowels measured, take your bottom tier and place it on the cake drum using buttercream frosting or royal icing. Take your dowels that you cut and insert them into the cake in a circular pattern. Make sure to space them evenly to disperse the weight of the next tier. Also remember to place the dowels far enough away from the edges of the cake or you will see them.
Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry crust. In a large bowl, combine the apples, Splenda, and cinnamon and stir until apples are coated. Pile into the pie plate. Dot with the butter. Cover with another sheet of pastry and fold edges over to seal. Flute with a fork or use fingers to press a design on the edges. Cut small slits in the top pastry to allow steam to escape. Bake at 425 degrees for 50 minutes or until the crust is brown and the apples are tender. To check apples, pierce with a fork through one of the steam vents
