Essentials Crochet
Help with figuring out gauge for crochet project!?
Hello! I’m an experienced crocheter, but I mostly work in the round and do projects where gauge is not essential. I’m going to make a shawl, but am confused about how to figure out gauge. The pattern says: Each pattern repeat measure about 5 inches across. I’m not sure how to check my gauge using this information. Can anyone please help me out? If the pattern repeats every 5″ or so, do up one run of the pattern and measure it. If that doesn’t work, use the wrapper. Since this is a Lion Brand pattern for their own yarn, I’m guessing they are using the gauge printed on the wrapper. Check it and then make a square to see if yours matches. There will be a square drawn on the wrapper, with a crochet hook in the middle of it. The size of the hook is listed right next to the hook. It will then say something like 12sc and 15 rows for 4″ (10cm) square. (I don’t know the numbers for that yarn, so I am guessing.)
