Right.A great guitar player would be teaching lessons to beginners in the back room at the local music shop. You will learn more with someone who can play a respectable rendition of music than trying to learn from a book. Playing guitar well is something that required way more skill than learning some basic chords.
I learned to play cowboy chords from my roommate.
His concept of rhythm was just a steady strum which was a bit quicker for different tunes. It wasn’t long that Roomie seemed the novice and I the seasoned strummer.How exactly was that possible?I had a feeling that learning music and guitar was more then just steady strumming and an E chord.It didn’t matter how long we jammed, he just couldn’t get past that boring same old strum.
There’s a trick to getting your fingers to bend or stretch just right for good tone.
It takes a lot of finger exercising and coaching to get your hand to make the desired sound. If you don’t press each string with even pressure your music will be sour.Without having any proper instruction on how to move my fingers and the correct positioning I just stuck to playing simple chords and songs that didn’t require anything to difficult.
Trying to get past the cowboy chords with only a book proved fruitless.
Unfortunately I found myself so busy with day-to-day life my guitar ended up just gather dust in my closet.
