does anyone know where i can download free sewing patterns for ladys clothes?
I am trying to find simple patterns for a girl in work who has a sister with spiecial needs – My friend has to turn up every pair of jeans etc that she buys her. she thought if she had a simple pattern she could make lots of clothes cheaply as sis is very hard on clothes and needs alot of everyday stuff. thanks
If you can drop me a note privately to tell me what the sister’s structural issues are, I may be able to suggest some pattern modifications or better patterns. For instance, knee locks on leg braces eat the knees of pants. Underlining the pants with something slippery like a polyester lining fabric keeps that from being such an issue. Adding a smidge more ease at the knee can also help. Achondroplastic dwarfs often need modifications to sleeve and armscye. etc.
Other than burdastyle.com, I’m not particularly impressed with many of the free patterns — they’re often poor quality and not balanced, so they hang funny and look wrong. There are better patterns to be had. Of commercial patterns, I tend to recommend Connie Crawford’s for Butterick, some Vogue, some Burda, Kwiksew, Stretch and Sew and Jalie. Butterick and Vogue patterns are often available for $1-2 (Butterick) or $3-5 (Vogue) at chain stores like Joann and Hancock. The others are rarely if ever on sale, but worth full price.
