Where can i find a knitting pattern for an argyle button-up vest, to precisely match the fourth doctor’s one?
basically i am putting together a costume of the fourth doctors season 12 outfit, and want to knit an exact replica of his vest, not that i have ever knitted before, but that’s besides the point- i know people who can. but i don’t know where to find a pattern for it. i want to have te diamonds the right size, quantity ect. as accuracy is important to me.
also, any other tips in making my costume from scratch, like where to find materials, would be helpful. thanks.
I haven’t been able to find a photo of the Argyle vest (waistcoat) on the Internet, and you did not provide one. There are lots of blogs on the Internet that feature Fourth Doctor costumes, and most that have a vest/waistcoat show a plaid/tartan one or the one with the question marks knitted in.
Barring running across a pattern for the Argyle waistcoat in a search, you might use a “basic” knitted vest/waistcoat pattern and adding in the diamonds. The technique used is “intarsia,” and it is best tackled by an experienced knitter. There’s a link to a free basic pattern, to which an Argyle intarsia pattern may be added, in the Sources, below.
Part of the fun of duplicating the wardrobe items is the hunt: Through thrift shops, fabric shops, and relatives’ wardrobes in search of the “perfect” item. Good luck with that!
