Punch Card
Will your polling place be using electronic voting machines or punch cards, or other?
A couple of years ago we switched from punch cards (never had a problem) to electronic voting machines. The past two elections, the machines didn’t work for the first few hours and the personnel weren’t trained sufficiently to correct nor override the problems.
What have been your experiences?
Well, punch cards caused big problems in 2000, so I can see why people are looking to go electronic. When I voted in the primaries I found the machines to be easy to use, and I liked that I was provided with a receipt of my vote, so I knew there was no confusion.
If the personnel aren’t trained properly that’s a big concern, but that’s a separate issue from the punch card/electronic debate. Even if training on punch cards would have been easier due to familiarity with the system, we can’t allow that to factor into the decision whether or not to go electronic.
