Completing Your Southwestern Decor With Southwestern Bed Sets
Southwestern style bedding is versatile and functional. Many people use this bedding for their guest rooms because it is comfortable and blends with almost any decorating theme. For many students who are leaving home for college, this bedding provides a reminder of home and comfort when they go to bed at night.
There are styles and designs of this bedding dating back to the early 1800s’. Many people remember some point in their childhood when they used a Southwest blanket on a trip or in their room. The modern styles of the southwestern bedding are made from a closed weave fabric. Much of the bedding is made in a soft fabric. In warmer climates the bedding is made from a soft cotton. In colder climates the bedding may be made of a flannel fabric. The fabric is printed and dyed to replicate the open weave fabric that traditional bedding was made from.
This bedding is very durable and is excellent when used in children’s rooms. The coverlet is reinforced with a stronger thread than many other types of bedding which allows it to withstand more abuse than many types of bedding. When used in a themed decor, the bedding provides elements of color without being overpowering.
The bedding is normally not made in the traditional quilting of most manufactured bedding. There is a thinner layer of batting used in the coverlet that provides the same level of warmth in a more lightweight cover. In areas where there is severe cold, the bedding is often made in a flannel or warmer fabric that provides an extra level of comfort to the user.
The designs on the bedding provide the same stories that the traditional bedding did. The geometric patters and primitive figures provide a wealthy of inspiration for story tellers who can use the bedding to share stories or talk about issues. Many people find that the bedding is very comforting when they cannot sleep because the patterns seem to envelop them and make them feel safe.
The bedding today is treated with stain and wear resistant materials that allow it to withstand rigorous use. Manufacturers and designers recognize the tendency of people to use the southwestern style bedding for their daily use. The bedding provides a continuous and seamless flow in a room that has been decorated in neutral tones or in a themed room that requires the designs and elements of the bedding design.
When used in an informal setting, the bedding provides a touch of continuity in the room where it is used. When the coverlet, sheets, pillows and sham are used on a guest bed, it provides a permanence to the bed and room. The bedding provides a welcoming place for guests to retreat and feel at ease.
When selecting the perfect southwestern bedding it is important to decide what the purpose of the home bedding will be. If it will be used in a room that will get little use, a more formal style of bedding may be appropriate. However, if the bedding will be used by family and friends for the many occasions when bedding is needed, you will find that the everyday bedding will provide you with years of valuable use.
