Sweater Bonnet

Would someone tell me what the Scottish, words mean in America?
I am trying to use American words so I wont get a violation in the future.
What do these words mean in your neck of the woods.
Something in your eye we call it grit.
What would you call it?
We say petrol you call it something different.
I know you call biscuits cookies.
And you call a pavement, a side walk.
We call a cigarette a fag, to you that is a bad word.
We say trousers, I think you say pants, but not sure.
We call money dough, what do you call it?
We call children bairns, what do you call them?
We say jumper, you say sweater.
We say chemist, I think you say a druggist.
We also call the front of a car the bonnet.
And we call the back of the car the boot.
Can anyone come up with anything else, maybe we should all learn these American, words to cut down on the violations, what say you?.
I really do love my American, cousins I just don’t like getting violations for using Scottish, words.
I taught at an International Baccalaureate school, and one of the projects my class worked on was the different meanings of words in the United States and in England.
Some that I remember, other than the ones you pointed out, are:
can…tin
garbage can…dust bin
yard…garden
elevator…lift
truck…lorry
argument…row
I can’t understand why you received a violation. Perhaps it was the cigarette one. That term is derogatory here in the U.S.
