Vintage Barbie Swimsuit Pattern?
Does anyone know where to get a knit or other type of pattern for Barbie’s original 1959 zebra striped swimsuit? I used to have a page bookmarked with it, but it seems to have went offline. I’m looking for the pattern in doll and human sizes. Thanks.
I’ve been looking for this pattern for a minute now too. I think people used to sell it on ebay, though I haven’t seen it anywhere in a while. I would recommend trying to make the pattern yourself by looking at images of the suit or looking at it in person if you’re lucky enough to have one (I have the repro from 93′). If I am able to recreate the pattern, I’ll be sure to share it on my site. I have been sewing Barbie clothes for around 7 years now. Basic sewing knowledge would be use full either way, so i’d suggest brushing up on your running stitches if you don’t sew regularly. Knitting the suit seems that it would be a basic project, it seems to be only one piece with only 4 points of machine stitching for shaping and to hold it together in the back and at the bottom. I however, am no knitter.
